Project management Vs Management by Projects

Both sounds similar right !
Yes it is but in reality they differ from Each other. So what makes them difference?

Well the answer is:
Project Management is same as managing a project which is finite in nature and having a Start and end.It produces an outcome or a result.Now say we have an opertaion to achieve business objective which also allow us or facilitate us to achieve project goals.This operation must be continous and it has multiple objectives .Now this opertaion can be managed by applying project management rules. But how, let us divide the whole operation into projects. Now to manage the operation we have to manage individual projects.

And so called as Management by Projects.

Case Study:

Let us Consider an Organization.Now it has say Multi Project Challenge.Now say  each project might finite but the process being followed to accomplish it inside the oraganization  must be contionous since to survive the organization must keep on continuing projects. Now to manage the process we need to consider it as a prject and so multi chain projects can be managed by manging the process by considering it as aproject.

So called as Management by Projects.

10 Steps to become PMP

I usually asked by my colleagues friends on " How to became a PMP?". i thought of making the steps availble in my blog.

So finally you deceided to became PMP. Well thats great. Now you need to have a lot of question in your mind on How to start , where to start and What is the technoques to pass.Probably this article will help you to to find Where What and How.

STEPS

1. Login to pmi.org. Register yourself.
2. Make sure you are eligible for PMP credential - You must eligible for all 4 criteria

   You must have 4 year Bachelors Degree.
   You must have at least 3 year of project management exeperience post 4 year Bachelors Degree.
   This 3 year of project management exeperience must have 4500+ Hour of exeperience in leading a project.
   You must attain 35 Hour contact programme on Project Mangement exeperience.This means you have to 
   attend a class of approx 4 days from vendor who are registered education provider from PMI USA.

3. Fill up the specific Application form for PMP online. PMI will seek information on detail on your eligibility
   as mentioned in step 2 for verification .Make sure you provide all genuine information.You need to submit
   the application within 90 days from the day when you started filling up application form.

4. Complete full payment for PMP exam online.

5. PMI will review your Application.PMI either approve your application directly or can ask for further Audit to
    find genuinity of your application.

6. If you are selected for AUDIT then you need to submit proof for all your exeperience which you mentioned
    while registering.PMI will send online form for this  and hence you need to fill up the form and send them
    back to  complete audit within 90 days.

7. PMI will audit in 5-7 days.

8. If you clear audit process then you need to appear and pass the PMP exam in 1 year called as Eligibilty
    Period.

9. Choose your prometric centre for exam , ans schedule a date.

10.Prepare your best . Then Go ahead with Exam ! All the best.

Yes , of-course !
It's my pleasure to share my success.I think following things can be the better way of passing the PMP exam in first Attempt.(I cleared on Nov-6th 2008, with total exp of 4.7 year at my 1st attempt)

Priority No1:


Whether or not a candidate is into project management its better to study from:
1) Start preparing Question / Answer. Try to attempt all available Questions/ Answer.
    (This  will give a general idea).


2) Try to visualise (no need to remember all, if possible then its good) all Input/Output of each Process
    Group,and its tool & technology...

3) Remember all Calculations / Formula, e.g. EV,PV,AC,CPI,SPI,BAC, ETC,EAC,VAC ,BCR ,BCWS,BCWP,its very
    easy , just remember.(I got more questions on this approx (15/20)

4) Go for simulation software (any) just to acquaint yourself with the pattern ,also give you a strength for
    sitting constantly 4 hr in Exam.

Priority No2:
5)PMBOK Guide atleast twice, with remembering 5 KA, 9 PG.(no need to read all , bcz few are reapeated like
   I/O , tools & techniques.

6) Study Material any /PMBOK/ Rita Mulcahy PMP Text book.( You always have achoice to choose a standard
    author)


Imp questions:

i) What happen if (CPI +ve,,SPI -ve) / (Both -ve )/ (Both +ve) / (CPI -ve,,SPI +ve).
ii) No of communication channel , for n number of team members.
iii) What are the type of Handling Conflicts.
iv) Selection of a project , ireespetvive of IRR,BCR,NPV.
v) Maslow Hierrachy/Herzberg Thery(Theory X/Y)/Douglas Mc-Gregor Thery.
vi) Type of Management Style(6 types, e.g autocratic/leissez faire/democratic etc).
vii) Conflict Intensity . highest --> Lowest (e.g Schedule , Priorities, then Manpower , .... at last Cost)
viii) Five interpersonal Influences of a successfull PM.(e.g Legitimate,Reward,Penalty , Exper, Referrent)
ix) Forms of communications.
x) Try to understand Professional code conduct & responsiblity( its different from real Life)

Since all questions are situation based, we have to have enough understanding of issues.Hope this might be usefull for you.I believe the plan to study should come from ones Job Profile, time availability, Liking , and Own way of remembering,reading habit.
